Nexium Medication
Nexium medication is popular for management of hyper acidity. The basic drug is esomeprazole, but it is commonly called Nexium. Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor to suppress acids in the stomach by decreasing production of enzymes, which promote release stomach acid. It is effective for treating gastrointestinal problems like gastroesophgeal reflux disorders (GERD), H. Pylori infection, and esophagitis. Esomeprazole nexium works miraculously for relief from chronic heartburns due to excessive acidity.
Normal course of treatment with nexium is 4 to 8 weeks. Adult dosage of the drug is 20 to 40 mg daily for treating GERD; for children below 12 years, it is 10 to 20 mg. A successful management of H. Pylori needs dosage of 40 mg daily for 10 days, while treatment of stomach ulcer requires 20 to 40 mg daily dosage for a six-month course.
Esomeprazole nexium has proven its efficacy to treat hyperacid situations. But, there has been some documented evidence of side effects. General side effects are noted for constipation, abdominal pain, gas, and diarrhea, dryness of mouth, nausea and headache. The headaches are documented in over 5.5 % cases being treated with nexium. But, it needs to be established if the type of headache is associated with the use of nexium. The patients should consult the physician before consuming a pain killer.
Sale of nexium is not restricted as such many individuals buy nexium and go for frequent self medication. Nexium OTC may be a source of side effects. It is worth noting to consult the doctor before using nexium in case of allergies and liver diseases. The pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should not take the drug before consulting the doctor.
